Culture
Food
Not only are the geographical and geological sides of this trip important, but so are the cultural aspects. The strongest cultural difference we noticed was the food. The strangest thing we came across was Loco Moco, an entree made of hamburgers, rice, eggs, and brown gravy. Another strange food was poi (the purple substance in the bottom right picture). Because Hawaii is made up of a bunch of islands in the Pacific Ocean, they grow a lot of their food. The bottom left picture is just some of the different type of fields. Along with the poi, they also grow coffee and sugar. While Dole still grows pineapples there they are only used for the tourist trade and are not used to manufacture their canned food. Also Hawaii is home to the worlds largest collection of Spam. Another thing Hawaii is famous for is the Hawaiian shaved Ices. The originals are still the best I have ever had. Navigation Links:

We didn't get to see a Laua while we where there, but we did get to see other aspects of the culture in our interaction with the natives.
