Waimea Canyon

Waimea Canyon is the location of the old volcano on Kauai. The loop around the outside edge is about 6 miles. The hike is long and the variation in altitude is great, but the views are worth it. Since the canyon is in the center of the island you get to experience the different kinds of landscapes the island has to offer. You get to see the desert side where the rock is more exposed allowing you to see the dikes. You also get to go through the rainforest side and see the amazing flowers and plants. The change in scenery on this trip is amazing and makes the hike well worth it.

Not only do you get to see the change in landscape, but you also get to enjoy the wildlife you might come upon during the trip. While on our hike we saw goats and different birds. It was a lot of fun.
